__________________________
Romii Fulton-Smith's art practice explores contemporary notions of desire and longing in relation to place. Fulton-Smith investigates the role of advertising and the internet in western culture and how this dictates our desires and changes the way we engage with and perceive place. The artist does this through use of appropriated materials and processes of mediation and digital manipulation. Working across video, image, text and installation, Fulton-Smith playfully re-arranges or interferes with idealised imagery and often uses the palm tree as a motif for paradise - the ultimate desirable place. The results of the artist's processes of collection, mediation and manipulation are lo-fi fragments that reference the ideal, however one that is never fully realised.
